Our Process

Our mold inspection process

Are you looking for a mold inspection? A musty smell in one room, spotting on a ceiling, or a leak you are not sure ever dried. We come out and tell you whether it is mold, how far it goes and what is feeding it. The inspection is free and carries no commitment.

1Call and we book the inspection

Tell us what you see or smell. A person answers 24/7, and we set a free inspection, usually the same day. Until we arrive, keep people and pets out of the area and leave it as it is, so we see what is really there.

2We look behind the surface

Mold needs moisture. With a thermal imaging camera and moisture meters we check walls, floors, ceilings and the crawl space for damp you cannot see, and we record each room in DocuSketch.

3You get a written answer

We tell you whether it is active mold or an old stain, how far it has spread and where the water comes from. If work is needed, you get an estimate priced in Xactimate. You can take it anywhere, and you sign only if you hire us.

“If you are looking for a company that truly values its customers, this is it! Apex came out on a short notice for a complimentary mold test over the weekend, I was on a very tight timeline. Their technician Michael was knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything. I’m impressed with their flexibility and high level of service.”

I am not the type to write reviews, but Apex has been great. I live in the Virginia Park II subdivision in Caldwell, ID and we had a garbage disposal come apart under our sink that flooded our island, part of the kitchen and leaked through the subfloor. Horrible water damage. Apex was very responsive and showed up as soon as we had the leak fixed. They had the island and water damaged floor pieces out and fans and dehumidifiers going that same day. Max stopped by like clockwork to check how dry it was and spray the area to prevent mold growth. They were available 24/7 by txt or phone. Which was great because at one point my grandson had pulled the drain tube out of our drain and the dehumidifier was just pumping water on the floor. So, I reached out to Michael, and he stepped me through what do to and we were back on track. They made sure to protect our house as much as possible while cleaning up the damage caused by the flooing. They also recommended a company they work with to perform the rebuilding of our island and kitchen. Can't wait to get out kitchen back, but Apex has been great to work with throughout this whole ordeal. Would recommend them to anyone, even my parents and grandparents.
Why us

Why homeowners call us for a mold inspection

Free, with no commitment

Finding out what you have costs nothing. The inspection does not open an insurance claim, and nothing happens next unless you decide to go ahead.

We find the water, not just the mold

Spotting on drywall is the symptom. A slow supply line, a damp crawl space or a leak that never dried is the cause. We trace it, because mold removed without fixing the moisture comes back.

A straight answer on insurance

Mold that follows a covered water loss, such as a burst pipe, is often included up to a limit. Mold from long-term damp generally is not. We tell you which one you have, so you can decide whether to call your insurer. We work with all insurance companies.

If it is mold, one team handles the rest

When remediation is needed, the team that inspected contains the area, removes the growth and dries the source. If mold comes back in an area we treated, we come back and treat it again at no charge.

Our licensed and insured, IICRC certified technicians read mold as the end of a water problem, so the technician who inspects also finds the moisture behind it.

Service Areas

Areas we serve

We inspect for mold across the Treasure Valley, North Idaho and Spokane. Where we look first depends on the house: the basement in an older Boise home, the crawlspace under a Meridian subdivision, the walls behind a Spokane freeze loss.

“Tyler has single handedly changed and given me hope in humanity. Ive been having mold issues and got the constant run around for 3 weeks. People came and went noting no issue. Tyler came and found every last issue and talked to me about it and is pushing to help us. Tyler was respectful and clean and just overall very nice when ive been so emotionally fragile over this frustrating situation. I truly couldn't thank Tyler enough”

FAQs

Mold inspection questions homeowners ask

Questions we get from our customers and our answers.

Is the mold inspection really free?

Yes. The inspection and the written estimate are free, and they carry no commitment. You sign only if you hire us, and an inspection does not open an insurance claim.

What do you check during a mold inspection?

We look at the growth you can see and check the material around it with moisture meters. Then we scan walls, floors and ceilings with a thermal imaging camera for damp you cannot see, and check the likely sources nearby, such as supply lines and the crawl space. Each room goes into DocuSketch, so you have a record of what we found.

Should I clean the mold before you come?

Not before we see it. Scrubbing or running a fan across visible mold can spread it, and it hides what we need to see. A small patch on a hard surface is often something you can clean yourself once you know nothing is feeding it, and we will tell you if that is the case.

Will a mold inspection affect my insurance?

No. We do not report anything to your insurer. If the inspection shows the mold followed a sudden water loss, such as a burst pipe, you can decide whether to file. Mold from long-term damp is generally not covered, and we tell you which one you have.

What happens if you find mold?

You get a written estimate priced in Xactimate, the software insurance companies use, with the same prices whether or not insurance pays. If you go ahead, we contain the area, remove what the mold has grown into and dry the source. 0% financing options are available.

What if it turns out not to be mold?

Then you know, and it cost you nothing. A dry, old stain is cosmetic. If we find damp without growth, we tell you where it is coming from, so it can be fixed before mold starts.
