Our water extraction process, step by step
Are you looking for water extraction services? There are inches of water in the basement, the carpet squelches, or the crawl space has turned into a pond. We pump standing water out of homes and commercial buildings and dry what it soaked, and the first step is a free inspection with no commitment.
1Call and we dispatch
Standing water will not wait, so neither do we. Someone answers 24/7, tells you how to shut the supply and which rooms to stay out of, and dispatches a crew with extraction gear. Most of the time we are pumping within the hour.
2We find where the water went
Pulling out the water you can see is the easy half. With moisture meters and a thermal imaging camera we follow it under tile, into carpet pad and down into the crawl space. DocuSketch records every room, so the extent of the flooding is on file.
3We dry it and handle the paperwork
Once the standing water is out, we set drying equipment and dehumidifiers. Most homes take three to five days, read daily until the IICRC standard is met. We write the job up in Xactimate, bill insurance above your deductible and leave the space ready for reconstruction.

We had a quick scare with a leak from our water softener and called Apex Restoration in Garden City. They were incredibly responsive and had someone at our home within about 30 minutes of calling. Thankfully, it ended up being a fairly minor issue and nothing major needed to be done. What really impressed us was that they didn’t charge us anything for coming out and taking a look. How much does water extraction cost?
Cost depends on how much water there is, what it soaked and how hard it is to reach, so a crawl space costs more than a slab floor. We give you a written estimate after a free inspection. It is built in Xactimate, the software insurers price from, so insured and self-pay customers see the same figures. We also offer 0% financing options.
How quickly does standing water need to come out?
As soon as you can arrange it. In the first hours water is mostly on the surface. Within a day it has moved into drywall, framing and subfloor, and mold growth can start in damp material soon after that. Early extraction means less material to remove later, which is why we keep crews available 24/7.
Can my carpet be saved after it floods?
Often, if the water was clean and we get to it quickly. We extract the water, check the pad and the subfloor underneath with moisture meters, and tell you honestly whether drying it in place makes sense. Carpet that sat for days, or that was soaked by a sewage backup, usually has to go. You see the readings before we decide.
Do you remove water from crawl spaces?
Yes. Crawl space extraction is a regular part of our work. We pump out the standing water, check the vapor barrier and the framing above it, and set drying equipment down there, because a crawl space left damp feeds moisture into the floor overhead. We also try to identify where the water came from so it does not return.
If you come out to look, have I filed an insurance claim?
No. Looking is free and it is not a claim. We tell you what we found and whether it appears to be a covered loss, and you decide what to do next. If you file, we help with the first call and provide the documentation. You sign only if you hire us.
